Immunization
IMPORTANT:
Students who fail to meet the requirements within 10 days risk suspension from school until they submit valid documentation of compliance or an authorized exemption.
Requirements
You must meet certain vaccine requirements to enroll in DoDEA schools.
These rules are the minimum needed, but getting more vaccines might be better for your health.
Proof of vaccines can come from:
Yellow international vaccine records
State agency-generated or school-generated immunization certificates
Records from a doctor, clinic, or hospital
Your parent or guardian must give the latest vaccine records when you enroll and whenever you get new shots.
After enrolling, parents have 30 days to provide proof of any missing vaccines.
If a vaccine is a series (multiple doses), the first dose must be given and documented within those 30 days.
If you need vaccines during the school year, you have 10 days from the vaccine due date to get the shot and show proof.
The vaccine due date is when you reach the minimum age recommended for that vaccine.
To find a more current version, please contact the school.
Exceptions
How to Get an Immunization Waiver:
Waivers are allowed only for medical or religious reasons. No personal or philosophical reasons.
The military command gives the rules for how to apply.
Medical Waivers:
A doctor must write a note if a vaccine can’t be given because of a long-term health issue or natural immunity.
This note must explain why the vaccine isn’t needed.
Submit this waiver when your child starts school or when a vaccine is due.
You only need to do this once while your child is enrolled.
Religious Waivers:
Parents must send a written note each school year saying they refuse vaccines for religious reasons.
For students who start mid-year, a note is required at enrollment and every school year after.
During Disease Outbreaks:
If there’s an outbreak of a vaccine-preventable illness, students with waivers for that vaccine may have to stay home.
This protects the student and others.
The student can return when the outbreak ends and the military says it’s safe.
